چکیده

In the beam pipe of the positron damping ring of the International Linear Collider (ILC), an electron cloud may be first produced by photoelectrons and ionization of residual gases and then increased by the secondary emission process. This paper reports the assessment of electron cloud effects in a number of configuration options for the ILC baseline configuration. Careful estimates were made of the secondary electron yield threshold for electron cloud build-up, and the related singleand coupled-bunch instabilities, as a function of beam current and surface properties for a variety of optics designs. When the configuration for the ILC damping rings was chosen at the end of 2005, the results from these studies were important considerations. On the basis of the theoretical and experimental work, the baseline configuration currently specifies a pair of 6 km damping rings for the positron beam, to mitigate the effects of the electron cloud that could present difficulties in a single 6 km ring. Study for Ilc Damping Ring at Kekb

ILC damping ring consists of very low emittance electron and positron storage rings. It is necessary for ILC damping ring to study electron cloud effects in such low emittance positron ring. We propose a low emittance operation of KEKB to study the effects.

A Perfect Electrode to Suppress Secondary Electrons inside the Magnets

An electron cloud due to multipacting in the positron ring of B-factories and the damping ring of the International Linear Collider (ILC) is one of the main concerns. The electron cloud in the drift region can be suppressed by a solenoid. However, the solenoid doesn’t work inside a magnet. Numerical studies show that there is strong multipacting in a dipole magnet of a B-factory positron ring. ...

Studies at Cesrta of Electron-cloud-induced Beam Dynamics for Future Damping Rings

Electron clouds can adversely affect the performance of accelerators, and are of particular concern for the design of future low emittance damping rings. Studies of the impact of electron clouds on the dynamics of bunch trains in Cesr have been a major focus of the Cesr Test Accelerator (CesrTA) program. In this paper, we report measurements of coherent tune shifts, emittance growth, and cohere...

Electron Trapping in Wiggler and Quadrupole Magnets of Cesrta *

The Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) has been reconfigured as an ultra low emittance damping ring for use as a test accelerator (CesrTA) for International Linear Collider (ILC) damping ring R&D [1]. One of the primary goals of the CesrTA program is to investigate the interaction of the electron cloud with low emittance positron beam to explore methods to suppress the electron cloud, develop...

Recommendation for Mitigations of the Electron Cloud Instability in the Ilc*

Electron cloud has been identified as one of the highest priority issues for the international Linear Collider (ILC) Damping Rings (DR). An electron cloud Working Group (WG) has evaluated the electron cloud effect and instability, and mitigation solutions for the electron cloud formation. Working group deliverables include recommendations for the baseline and alternate solutions to the electron...
